Before beginning the practice of law in October, 1956 with the law firm of Keith, Mehaffy & Weber, now MehaffyWeber, P.C., Dewey Gonsoulin served two years with the United States Army in Japan. He has been a trial lawyer for 50 years.

During his distinguished tenure of law practice, Dewey has tried a number of significant cases in the fields of product liability, railroad litigation, automobile and premises liability. He has tried over a dozen civil rights and employment discrimination cases. He has also successfully defended several class action employment discrimination lawsuits and represented national employers in civil rights cases. He has argued more than 80 cases on appeal, including five cases before the Texas Supreme Court and several precedent-setting cases. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Attorneys.

Dewey graduated from Rice University with distinction, and from The University of Texas Law School with honors.

Activities

Dewey is very active in the community, serving on numerous boards of civic and charitable organizations.

Memberships and Honors

Dewey has served as President of the Jefferson County Bar Association and President of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. He is a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, was a member of the Association of Insurance Attorneys, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and taught at the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy in Boulder, Colorado.

He was selected as a Texas Monthly magazine "Super Lawyer" from 2003 to 2005.
